People always ask me what brought me to accounting as it was something I retrained in rather than something I did from leaving school.
In 2005 I started a franchise in Cornwall for Sing and Sign baby signing and suddenly got thrown into doing my own accounts. Luckily my Uncle who has been doing bookkeeping and self assessment for years helped me get going so that I knew what I was doing (and he didn't have too much of a mess to sort out at the end of the year!). I realised very quickly I actually loved doing this and wanted to do more of it! I started by doing an evening course at college in computerised bookkeeping and continued studying from there. I qualified with the AAT in 2010 and haven't looked back. Nero Accountancy was created in September 2010 when I gained membership to the AAT, named after puppy Nero who was born in February 2010 (and who is my long standing office dog!). 9 years on I still love what I do, am still taking more courses to increase my knowledge and be able to diversify in the areas I practice in and it never seems like work (always a good sign you are doing the right thing!).
